Pisa Mover
For an easy trip into PISA when travelling through Italy rather than drive in and face the complications of finding a car park it is much easier to use the Pisa Mover. The Pisa mover is a train that connects Pisa railway station to the airport and an out of town car park. The car park (for the Pisa mover) is just outside Pisa. The official address is Piazzale Corradino D'Ascanio, 1, 56121 Pisa PI, Italy. This metro train goes to and from the train and airport continuously. You can park up, buy your ticket and be in Pisa or the airport in less than 10 minutes.

Using the Pisa Mover
There are 107 seats in each of the two trains and the signage is straightforward. However when you combine parking with a visit into Pisa it can be confusing, therefore I have included instructions below.
The above picture shows the inside of the PISA mover.
PISA mover instructions
- Drive into the car park via the automatic barrier;
- On entry, a ticket will be printed, keep hold of it as you will need it to get out;
- Ignore the first ticket machine on the car park. This is for your ticket when you come back;
- Go up the stairs and buy the tickets into Pisa using the automated machines. You can get a discount on the price into Pisa using your car park ticket. For us it was the same price for 2 adults and 3 children tickets as it was for 1 adult ticket (around £10). Individual tickets are only a few pounds. The car parking ticket will only give a discount for up to 5 people. These machines take cards;
- Use these tickets to go through the turnstyles;
- The car park stop is midway between Pisa and the Airport so make sure you’re on the correct side. Announcements and signage make that easy;
- When the train arrives (after only a few minutes) exit the station and walk to Pisa. This will take you about 25 minutes. The picture below shows the approximate route using Google maps;
The above picture shows the Google maps routemap from the main PISA station to the towwer.
- On return use the ticket machine on the carpark to pay for your parking. This will only be a few pounds and is calculated by how long you have been in the car park. You will need the ticket given to you at the beginning (when entering the car park) to be scanned in order for the machine to calculate the cost;
- Scan the car park ticket on exit and the barriers will lift allowing you to exit the car park and continue on your journey.

In summary
Using the Pisa mover is really easy and walking to Pisa from the railway station doesn’t take long. If you are visiting Pisa and want to eat, wander off the main strip to one of the side roads where the meals will be cheaper and just as delicious. There is also a Subway located about 3 minutes walk from the leaning tower of Pisa.
